Trw steering gears with defective sector

What NHTSA investigated

Certain trw steering gears can contain sector shafts with defective gear tooth profiles.these sector shafts may interfere with the rack-piston teeth causing the steering to stick or bind.this may restrict the turning angle of the vehicle resulting in a possible accident. Rmd sent 9 information request letters to vehicle manufacturers that were listed by trw as receiving this recalled EQUIPMENT.5 oems sent responses stating the affected steering gears were all contained, repaired prior to this eq, or were never received.nhtsa has received 573 defect information reports from the remaining 4 oems.this eq is closed.responses from each OEM can be found on the following page or in the document repository.motor coach INDUSTRIES......08V-063PIERCE MANUFACTURING.........08V-020SEAGRAVE fire APPARATUS......08V-117SUTPHEN CORPORATION..........08V-079
