The short version
You can use every page on this site without giving us anything. There is no sign-up, no login and nothing to accept. The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and ships no client-side JavaScript, so there is no tracking script to opt out of.
That is a description of the code, not an aspiration. Searching is a plain form submission; nothing is stored in your browser.
If you submit a VIN
The VIN lookup sends the number you type to the US Department of Transportation’s public vPIC service, which decodes it into a make, model and year. That request leaves this site and reaches a US government system.
We do not store the VIN, log it to a database, or associate it with you. It appears in the address bar of the results page, so treat that URL as you would any other — a VIN identifies a vehicle.
A VIN is not needed to use the site. Make, model and year finds the same recalls.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare — Hosting and content delivery
- Connection metadata, including IP address, that any web server receives. Used to serve the page and to absorb attacks. Their privacy policy.
- NHTSA vPIC — VIN decoding, only when you submit a VIN
- The VIN you type is sent to the US Department of Transportation to be decoded into a make, model and year. It is not stored here. Their privacy policy.
Advertising
The layout reserves space for advertising, but no advertisements are being served at the moment and no advertising cookies are set. When that changes this section will name the provider and what it collects, before the first advertisement appears.
Your rights
Data protection law in the UK, the EU and several US states gives you rights over personal data held about you — to see it, correct it or have it deleted.
In practice there is very little to exercise them against: this site holds no accounts and no user records. The connection logs described above sit with our hosting provider and are kept only as long as they need them to run and protect the service.

Children
This site is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify one.
Changes
Last updated 23 September 2026. If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the change will be made here before the collection starts, not after.
