What this is
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration publishes every safety recall it has on record as open data. It is complete and authoritative, and it is distributed as tab-separated files that are not much use to someone who just wants to know whether their car is affected.
This site indexes those files — every campaign on its own page, cross-linked by make, by part and by year, with the manufacturer’s own description of the defect, the safety consequence and the remedy.
What it does that others do not
NHTSA also publishes quarterly repair completion data: how many of the vehicles covered by each recall have actually been fixed. Most recall sites ignore it. It is the difference between “this recall was issued” and 161,929,740 vehicles still on the road unrepaired.
Where a recall has those figures, they are on its page, and the aggregate is at unrepaired vehicles.
What it is not
Not affiliated with NHTSA, the US Department of Transportation, or any vehicle manufacturer. Nobody has endorsed this site and nobody reviews it.
Not a VIN lookup. No public dataset maps a VIN to the recalls still open on one specific vehicle — that lives in each manufacturer’s own records. For that, check your VIN at nhtsa.gov. This site can tell you which recalls cover a make, model and year; it cannot tell you whether yours has already been repaired.
Not advice. If a recall applies to your vehicle, the manufacturer and your dealer are the people to act on it.
How it is funded
Advertising. The data is free to use, there is no sign-up, no paywall and nothing is sold. Advertising has no influence on what is published: the recall record is a copy of NHTSA’s, and no manufacturer can pay to change how their recalls appear.
Advertisements are never placed against an urgent safety advisory, and never between a warning and the instructions for acting on it.
Checking the work
Vehicle Recall is run independently. Rather than ask you to take it on trust, it shows its working: the methodology sets out where every figure comes from and how it is derived, and every recall page links to NHTSA’s own record so it can be checked against the source.
