What the defect is
Equipment description: mazda speed resinous hoods, designed and sold as accessory parts for model year 1992-1995 RX7 vehicles, manufactured between june 1, 1997, through september 19, 2000.
What could happen
A hook on a hood striker for the resinous hood may separate from a base plate at the welded portion due to insufficient welding strength. The hood may suddenly open during operation, losing front visibility, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
What gets fixed
MAZDA WILL NOTIFY THE RX7 VEHICLE CUSTOMERS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLE TO A MAZDA DEALER TO HAVE THE HOOD STRIKER REPLACED WITH A MODIFIED ONE.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 6 November 2000.
