What the defect is
Certain tuthill trailer suspensions, models 20/22 ar and RS3162, shipped from february 18, 2004, and september 22, 2005, and installed as original equipment on trailers. The beam/axle pivot connection joint may potentionally be misassembled which could lead to misalignment and excessive play causing the trailer to wander.
What could happen
A vehicle crash can occur should the trailer wander.
What gets fixed
TUTHILL IS WORKING WITH THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS TO NOTIFY THE OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES AND PROVIDE FREE REMEDY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 11, 2005.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 12 October 2005.
