What the defect is
Certain thermo king tripac auxiliary power units, tripac tier 1 serial number range 023D00A001 to 065D02A022 and tripac tier 2 serial number range 0453TC0001 to #1153TC5116, sold as aftermarket for use on any tractor trailer or box truck. The tripac apu claw-shaped and bolted aluminum alloy clamps may crack allowing the unit to come loose and possibly separate from the vehicle.
What could happen
A vehicle crash could occur should the apu fall from the truck while the vehicle is in use.
What gets fixed
THERMO KING WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ALUMINUM CLAMPS WITH STEEL CLAMPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 11, 2006.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 10 May 2006.
