What the defect is
Combi is recalling 67,167 centre, centre arb, and shuttle infant child restraint systems, model nos. 8065, 8074, 8086, 8087, and 8520, and associated travel systems, model nos. 4400, 4515, and 4520, that contain centre and shuttle car seat models. This recall includes the entire production of these models from october 2005 through december 2007. In the event of a frontal crash, the car seat could potentially become separated from its base.
What could happen
Should the seat separate from the base in a crash, the child will not be adequately protected possibly resulting in injury.
What gets fixed
OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT COMBI TO OBTAIN A FREE RETROFIT KIT. UNTIL THE CAREGIVER RECEIVES THE FREE RETROFIT KIT, COMBI RECOMMENDS THAT THE CAR SEAT BE USED WITHOUT THE BASE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 3, 2008.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 28 February 2008.
