What the defect is
Girardin is recalling 40 my 2008 mb ii school buses manufactured between october 1, 2007 and september 19, 2008, equipped with the option bbx (battery box). A long bolt was installed on the positive battery post of the battery located in the battery box. The bolt could make contact with the battery drawer's latch.
What could happen
Contact between the long bolt and the drawer's latch may create a short circuit. This short circuit could result in a fire or explosion.
What gets fixed
GIRARDIN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE A FREE REMEDY ALONG WITH REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 10, 2008.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 2 October 2008.
