What the defect is
Girardin is recalling 210 my 2008 and 2009 mb ii and G5 school buses manufactured between august 1 and december 12, 2008, equipped with seat belts (option SMK2, SBK3). The seat belts may not have the cording or tag identification which does not comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."
What could happen
This standard requires proper identification of the seat belt manufacturer for seat belt assemblies.
What gets fixed
GIRARDIN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE NONCOMPLIANT SEAT BELTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 9, 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 29 December 2008.
