What the defect is
Blue bird is recalling 3,419 my 2008 and 2009 vision conventional school buses manufactured from january 18, 2007 through october 29, 2008, equipped with caterpillar C7 and C7 07 engines. Incorrect bolts and/or spacers may have been installed to attach the fan blade to the fan clutch.
What could happen
As a result, the fan blade may separate from the clutch and potentially cause property damage or personal injury to persons in or near the front of the bus. The vehicle should not be serviced with the hood open and the engine running until the bolts/spacers have been inspected and, if needed, replaced.
What gets fixed
BLUE BIRD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE BUSES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 7, 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 9 March 2009.
