What the defect is
Wilson trailers is recalling 7,429 my 1999-2009 gooseneck trailers. The defect concerns the lock support tube that may have been installed beyond specification. If this is the case, the lock could develop inadequate pin engagement resulting in the gate opening unexpectedly.
What could happen
This could result in personal injury to the user.
What gets fixed
OWNERS ARE TO CHECK THE GAP BETWEEN THE KEEPER AND SUPPORT TUBE AND SHOULD DOCUMENT THE DIMENSION ON THE POSTCARD PROVIDED AND RETURN IT BACK TO WILSON TRAILERS. IF THE GAP IS GREATER THAN 3/8 INCH, A FIELD REPAIR IS AVAILABLE TO ADJUST THE SUPPORT TUBE TO THE CORRECT DIMENSION. IF THE OWNER PREFER, YOU MAY CONTACT WILSON DEALER SO THEY CAN INSPECT THE AREA OF CONCERN AND ADJUST THE LOCK SUPPORT TUBE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE PIN ENGAGEMENT. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MAY 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 30 April 2009.
