What the defect is
Startrans is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2009 transit buses manufactured between august 9, 2006 and june 25, 2009, equipped with trans/air air conditioning systems. Each trans/air system comes with an electrical kit and ec pc board which if improperly installed could overheat.
What could happen
Overheating of the pc board could result in a fire.
What gets fixed
STARTRANS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND THE BUSES WILL BE REPAIRED BY EITHER STARTRANS OR TRANS/AIR FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE SEE TRANS/AIR'S DEFECT REPORT 09E-042. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 4, 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 19 October 2009.
