What the defect is
Daimler buses is recalling certain model year 2000 through 2008 orion transit buses equipped with lift-u wheelchair lifts. The lifts are equipped with a logic board assembly for the wheelchair lift control box, p/nos. 373-0226 and 373-0265. The outboard ramp barrier could fold in toward a lift passenger and pinch, press, or crush the passenger's feet.
What could happen
The lift passenger could be seriously injured.
What gets fixed
ORION WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND THE REPAIRS WILL BE MADE BY LIFT-U FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE SEE LIFT-U'S DEFECT REPORT 09E-051. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 29, 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 20 October 2009.
