What the defect is
Kenworth is recalling certain model year 2010 T2000, T660, T800 and W900 vehicles manufactured between july 30, 2009 and september 18, 2009. The rear axle outer end hub may have not been primed with oil properly during the rear axle installation process. Potential lack of oil may cause the outer end bearing to heat up and/or seize, possibly resulting in the overheating of the wheel end.
What could happen
A wheel end fire may occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BEARINGS, SEALS AND WILL ADD OIL TO THE OUTER END HUB AS WELL AS INSPECT RACES AND AXLE HOUSING FOR DAMAGE AND REPLACING AS NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 24, 2010.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 4 May 2010.
