What the defect is
Suzuki is recalling certain model year 2010 kizashi passenger vehicles manufactured from october 13, 2009 through may 31, 2010. The hinged door of the center lower box located in the front dashboard area fails to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 201, "occupant protection in interior impact."
What could happen
The door may open in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle's occupants.
What gets fixed
SUZUKI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER LOWER BOX OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WITH A NEW PART FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 13, 2010.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 28 June 2010.
