What the defect is
Fairplay is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 eve lsv electric low speed vehicles manufactured from july 31, 2009, through december 27, 2010. A fuse specified to be in the 12V accessory circuit was not built into the wiring harness. The fuse value on the input to the voltage reducer was too large to prevent possible damage. There was no fuse inserted in the 12 volt circuit.
What could happen
Without this fuse for protection, a short in any portion of the 12V wiring can melt wire insulation and pose the risk of a fire.
What gets fixed
FAIRPLAY WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 22, 2011.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 31 January 2011.
