What the defect is
Pierce is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 arrow xt and velocity fire apparatus manufactured from june 30, 2009, through march 15, 2011. The front axle of these vehicles were built with michelin 365/70R22.5 xza tires installed on 12.25 inch wide wheels. These tires require 10.5 inch wide wheels. Therefore, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 120, "tire selection and rims for motor vehicles other than passenger cars."
What could happen
The wider 12.25 inch wheel may cause the tire bead to separate from the rim. This tire bead separation can cause a tire failure that may cause the vehicle to crash without prior warning.
What gets fixed
DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW 10.5 INCH WIDE WHEELS AND NEW MICHELIN 365/70R22.5 ZXA TIRES ON THE FRONT AXLE OF THE FIRE APPARATUS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 15, 2011.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 5 April 2011.
