What the defect is
Volvo is recalling certain model year 2007 S80 passenger cars manufactured from march 8, 2006, through may 16, 2007. The power steering reservoir return hose may have been incorrectly routed, which can result in increased pressure in the power steering system. The power steering return hose may burst at the steering gear due to the increased pressure, resulting in a loss of power steering fluid.
What could happen
The driver may experience a sudden loss of power steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
VOLVO DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE ROUTING OF THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR RETURN HOSE AND MAKE REPAIRS AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2011.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 26 July 2011.
