- 2011-2012 Trans Tech SST
What the defect is
Transportation collaborative, inc. (tci) is recalling certain model year 2011 and 2012 trans tech model sst school buses manufactured of ford E350 and E450 econoline chassis. The fiberglass installed failed to meet design specifications, causing the insufficient torque valves at the upper torso mounting point. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."
What could happen
In the event of a crash, the shoulder restraint could detach from the b-pillar anchorage, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupant.
What gets fixed
TCI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS AND REPAIR KITS OR THE BUS MAY BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 15, 2012.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 6 March 2012.
