What the defect is
Idle Free Systems, Inc. (IFS) is recalling certain Electric Auxiliary Power Units (APU), part number BA600, manufactured October 1, 2009, to April 30, 2015. The affected APUs have metal housings whose mounting points may crack and tear. Additionally, the mounting bolts of the power units may loosen or possibly fail.
What could happen
If the mounting points crack and tear or the attaching bolts loosen or fail the power unit may detach from the truck, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
IFS will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the APU for damage and, where needed, install a welded gusset upgrade kit to strengthen the APU C-channels. All units will receive stronger clamping brackets. All repairs will be performed free of charge.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 5 May 2015.
