What the defect is
Hino Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 238, 258, 268, and 338 trucks manufactured January 5, 2015, to March 20, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the U-bolt that connects the suspension springs to the front axle may have been overtightened.
What could happen
If the U-bolt was overtightened, the bolt may stretch resulting in it loosening or failing. Either result may cause a loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
What gets fixed
Hino will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front axle U-bolts on the subject vehicles free of charge. The recall began on June 5, 2015.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 7 April 2015.
