What the defect is
Vanguard National Trailer Corporation (Vanguard) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 CIMC Dry Freight and Refrigerated trailers manufactured October 22, 2014, to October 2, 2015, and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2 or EX225L+ axles. The affected axle assemblies have caliper bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.
What could happen
If the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Vanguard will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the caliper bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 18, 2015.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 16 December 2015.
