What the defect is
ShowHauler Trucks, Inc. (ShowHauler) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Motorhomes, Garage units, and Toterhomes manufactured June 1, 2007, to April 13, 2011. The affected vehicles are equipped with certain Lippert-brand Coachstep Double and Triple Electric Steps. These steps use a bolt to attach the fan gear assembly to the steps. This bolt may fracture allowing the fan gear to disengage from the steps. As a result, the steps may not remain in the expected position and may be unstable.
What could happen
Unstable entry and exit steps increase the risk of injury.
What gets fixed
ShowHauler will notify owners and dealers will install a retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, free of charge. The recall began on February 23, 2016.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 26 January 2016.
