What the defect is
Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Winnebago Tour motorhomes manufactured May 25, 2013, to November 25, 2015, and Itasca Ellipse motorhomes manufactured May 25, 2013, to November 18, 2015. The throttle pedal position sensor on the affected vehicles may not return to zero, causing the engine brake to suddenly not activate as expected, reducing the vehicle's deceleration ability.
What could happen
A sudden loss of an engine brake without warning on a motorhome may lead to a reduced brake ability, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Daimler Trucks North America has notified owners, and dealers, will replace the throttle pedal, free of charge. An interim notification was distributed to owners on July 8, 2016. The recall began on August 15, 2016.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 22 June 2016.
