What the defect is
HME, Inc. (HME) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Type-6 Wildland trucks manufactured January 2, 2015, to December 1, 2016. The Certification label on the affected vehicles may incorrectly list the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) as 15,876 kilograms instead of the correct GVWR of 8,845 kg. (The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 19,500 lbs is listed correctly on the label.) As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
What could happen
If there is an incorrect weight rating on the label, the operator may overload the vehicle, possibly resulting in a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
HME will mail a corrected certification label to owners free of charge. The recall began on February 6, 2017.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 27 December 2016.
