What the defect is
Timken Company (Timken) is recalling certain Rear Hub Unit Bearings , part numbers HB5Z1104A and HA590446 sold by Timken for installation on 2011-2017 Ford Explorer 4X2 vehicles. These Rear Hub Unit Bearings with Ford branding, were manufactured without a self retention feature, possibly resulting in the separation of the wheel or wheel end.
What could happen
A loss of the wheel or wheel end can increase the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Timken will notify the known owners and the distributors that received the parts, and dealers will provide a replacement rear hub unit bearing, free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2017.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 1 August 2017.
