What the defect is
Polar Tank Trailer, LLC. (Polar) is recalling certain 2018 SRJ7 trailers manufactured with Meritor MTA/MTP trailer suspensions. The brake caliper bolts on these axles may not be properly torqued which can allow the caliper to detach from the mounting flange.
What could happen
If the caliper bolts are improperly torqued and the caliper detaches from the mounting flange, a loss of braking ability would occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Polar has notified the vehicle owners, instructing them to check the caliper bolts per the supplied bulletin, receiving reimbursement from Meritor. The recall began on October 4, 2017.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 27 September 2017.
