What the defect is
Arcimoto Inc (Arcimoto) is recalling certain 2017 FUV motorcycles. The affected motorcycles were built with a front/rear split brake system instead of a left/right split brake system. In the event of a front brake system failure, the rear brake system may not allow the vehicle to meet the minimum stopping distance requirements. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 122, "Motorcycle brake systems."
What could happen
If the brakes cannot stop the motorcycle within the distance required, there is an increased risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Arcimoto has contacted the owners and will replace the existing brake lines with new brake lines that have an updated design, free of charge.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 31 December 2018.
