What the defect is
Lonestar Specialty Vehicles is recalling certain 2021-2023 SV Hybrid Electric S22 terminal tractors. The Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) may disable the Battery Management System (BMS) isolation measurement feature, preventing the detection of a high voltage battery pack malfunction.
What could happen
An operator may be unaware of a high voltage battery pack malfunction, increasing the risk of a fire.
What gets fixed
Lonestar Specialty Vehicles has released an over-the-air (OTA) VCU software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024.
This recall is fixed by a software update. The manufacturer reports the remedy can be delivered over the air, so affected vehicles may not need a dealer visit. Confirm with the manufacturer before assuming yours has received it.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 14 November 2023.
