What the defect is
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Goodyear) is recalling certain Hercules Terra Trac AT X-Venture tires, size LT265/75R16. The tires contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 574, "Tire Identification & Recordkeeping."
What could happen
The inability to determine the production date of a tire can result in prolonged usage of a tire that should be replaced, or unknowingly using a tire that has been recalled. Either of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 26, 2024.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 18 September 2024.
