What the defect is
Prevost Car (US) Inc. (Prevost) is recalling certain 2010 H3-45 VIP, 2024 H3-45 and X3-45 vehicles. The coolant heaters may generate excessive exhaust gas and overheat.
What could happen
Excessive exhaust gas may increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, and an overheating heater increases the risk of a fire. Additionally, a vehicle fire may require an evacuation procedure in an uncontrolled traffic situation, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
What gets fixed
Vehicle owners are advised not to operate the heaters until they have been repaired. Prevost will inspect the coolant heaters, replace the damaged components, and clean the heater's internal components, as necessary. In addition, Prevost will adjust the air to fuel ratio. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 17, 2024.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 20 March 2024.
