What the defect is
Hiab USA Inc. (Hiab) is recalling certain K-HiPro 425 and K-HiPro 505 cranes. Under certain operating conditions, over time the weld between the column pillar and the main plate may fatigue and crack.
What could happen
A cracked weld may result in the collapse of the crane column when in use, increasing the risk of injury to the operator or others nearby.
What gets fixed
Hiab will inspect crane operating data and replace the columns as necessary, free of charge. For cranes that are inspected but do not require a replacement, Hiab will regularly monitor the column and replace as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 11, 2026.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 22 July 2026.
