What the defect is
Overheating and premature deterioration of the combustion chamber can occur in marginal or poor installations of the furnace. The deterioration is caused when air circulation from the furnace housing is restricted either by a lack of return air circulation or a ducting system which prevents free circulation of the heated air from the furnace.
What could happen
If the combustion chamber deterioration is not detectedand corrected, chamber flame can penetrate the chamber and the furnace casing,causing a vehicle fire.
What gets fixed
INSPECT THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND TEST INSTALLATION OF THE FURNACE FOR SPECIFICATIONS. REWIRE THE OVERHEATING LIMIT SWITCH, WHICH CUTS THE FURNACE OFF WHEN THE HEAT EXCEEDS THE SPECIFIED LIMIT AND AUTOMATICALLY RESETS THE FURNACE TO A CONFIGURATION WHICH REQUIRES THE OPERATOR TO MANUALLY RESET THE FURNACE.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 12 February 1993.
