What the defect is
Certain evenflo tribute and tribute 5 rear-facing infant child restraints with model nos beginning with 378 or 379, manufactured between september 8 and september 22, 2005. The plastic material in a specific area on each side wall was incompletely bonded during the molding of the seat shell which fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 213, child restraint systems.
What could happen
In the event of a vehicle crash, the seat shell can crack, possibly resulting in injury to the child.
What gets fixed
EVENFLO WILL AUTOMATICALLY SEND A REPLACEMENT SEAT TO ALL REGISTERED OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN OCTOBER 7, 2005.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 18 October 2005.
