What the defect is
Monaco is recalling 811 monarch, lapalma rear gas and lapalma diesel, holiday rambler admiral, vacationer rear gas and vacationer diesel and safari simba motor homes with the inverter option. The optional inverter is not protected by a fuse as the result of a production error. The fuse should be installed in the battery compartment in the rear of the passenger side of the motor home between the battery source and the inverter. The inverter is to be a protected appliance by code requirement.
What could happen
With no fuse installed, a vehicle fire may result from failure of the inverter.
What gets fixed
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A 125AMP FUSE TO PROTECT THE INVERTER FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 19, 2008.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 18 April 2008.
