What the defect is
Oshkosh is recalling 302 my 2008 t-series, tx, sta, h, p, s and h-tractor, airport rescue, firefighting, commercial, concrete mixer and military trucks and highway vehicles equipped with haldex air brake system control valve. The rubber diaphragm used inside the quick release valve (qrv) may delaminate and may cause leakage levels past and/or through the diaphragm in excess of permissible specifications, or could cause a restriction in the air flow, thereby effecting pressure delivery to the service brakes and not allow the service brakes to release.
What could happen
Malfunction of the air brake system could result in a vehicle crash.
What gets fixed
OSHKOSH IS WORKING WITH HALDEX AND WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL EFFECTED QRVS FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE SEE 09E-004. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2009.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 5 May 2009.
