What the defect is
Terex telelect is recalling certain model year 1998 through 2009 XT60 aerial devices mounted on trucks. These vehicles are used to elevate people into work areas up to 60 feet in the air. Cracks can develop around the lower boom hinge pin boss at the turntable which can progress into failure of the plates if not detected.
What could happen
Failure of the plates will cause unexpected motion of the boom and could cause the platform to fall, resulting in serious injury or death to a person standing on the platform.
What gets fixed
TEREX WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 5, 2010.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 29 January 2010.
