What the defect is
Forest river is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 r-pod travel trailers manufactured from october 27, 2008, through november 20, 2010, for failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." these vehicles do not have the required clearance lights.
What could happen
This could render the vehicle less visible to other motorist during hours of darkness, possibly resulting in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
What gets fixed
Forest Rivers petition for relief from remedy based on its belief that the noncompliance was inconsequential to motor vehicle safety was denied by NHTSA on May 16, 2012. Accordingly, Forest River will conduct a safety recall campaign. The safety recall began in May 2012.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 12 January 2011.
