What the defect is
Porsche is recalling certain model year 2010-2011, 911 turbo; turbo s, 911 GT3, GT3 rs and GT2 rs high performance vehicles, manufactured from may 18, 2009 through september 17, 2010, and equipped with center locking hub and wheel assemblies. Over time the hubs can wear prematurely.
What could happen
As the hubs wear, the wheels could loosen, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CENTRAL LOCKING HUBS AND WHEELS WITH AN IMPROVED DESIGN, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 28, 2011.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 10 June 2011.
