What the defect is
Mcneilus is recalling certain model year 2010-2012 zr trucks, manufactured from april 26, 2010, through may 1, 2012 for failing to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108 lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. the hazard warning lamps do not work when the ignition is in the off position.
What could happen
Inadequate lighting could reduce the visibility of the vehicle, increasing the potential for a crash.
What gets fixed
MCNEILUS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND MCNEILUS SERVICE TECHNICIANS WILL CONNECT THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS DIRECTLY TO THE VEHICLES POWER SUPPLY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN EARLY JUNE 2012.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 22 May 2012.
