What the defect is
Jaguar Land Rover is recalling certain model year 2013 XF vehicles manufactured October 3, 2012, through October 12, 2012 and equipped with a gasoline engine. The electronic modules which control the fuel pump may shut down causing the fuel pump to stop pumping fuel. The resulting fuel starvation will cause the engine to stall.
What could happen
An engine stall without warning while driving may lead to a loss of motive power, a loss of power-assisted braking and a loss of power-assisted steering. Each of these conditions may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
What gets fixed
Jaguar Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional wiring harness to the in-tank fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on January 24, 2013.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 7 December 2012.
