What the defect is
Altec is recalling certain model year 2005-2013 AH75/85/100 aerial devices manufactured April 2005 through April 2013; and equipped with current leakage monitoring systems. The cable for the current leakage monitoring system may be too long and may breach the gap provided by the lower boom fiberglass insert chassis insulating system.
What could happen
If the gap is breached, then the boom may conduct electrical current, increasing the risk of electrical shock to the operator.
What gets fixed
Altec will notify owners and dealers will inspect and properly secure the leakage monitor cable. The recall is expected to begin during September 2013. Altec's recall number is CSN 585.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 21 August 2013.
