What the defect is
H&H Sports Protection (H&H) is recalling certain VCAN V528 helmets size XL manufactured April 1, 2008, to October 9, 2014. The helmet retention systems failed during high temperature testing. Also, the required labeling may not be found on the helmets. Thus, these helmets do not meet the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 218 "Motorcycle helmets."
What could happen
Failed helmet restraints can increase the risk of serious personal injury to the occupant.
What gets fixed
H&H will notify affected owners, retailers and dealers, and H&H will reimburse the full purchase price for the helmets. The recall began February 20, 2015.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 8 December 2014.
