What the defect is
Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 1199 Panigale and Panigale S motorcycles. The left handlebar switch may not get power from its connection at the dashboard, preventing the horn, instrument panel display, high beam and right turn signals from functioning. As such, these motorcycles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."
What could happen
The rider's inability to use the horn, right turn indicators and high beam could increase the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional wiring harness, free of charge. The recall began on June 6, 2014.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 4 April 2014.
