What the defect is
Kalmar Solutions, LLC (Kalmar) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ottawa terminal tractors manufactured June 2, 2014, to July 31, 2014. The Cummins ISB or ISL engines in these vehicles may have been equipped with Fleetguard UFF-XT fuel filters, part number FF63009, whose filter shell may separate from the fuel filter nut plate causing the engine to stall without warning.
What could happen
If the engine stalls unexpectedly there is an increased risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Kalmar will notify owners, and Cummins service centers will replace the fuel filter with a non-defective one, free of charge. Kalmar issued an interim notification to owners on November 10, 2014. The recall is expected to begin in November 2014.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 22 September 2014.
