What the defect is
Industrias Martinrea de Mexico SA de CV (Martinrea) has submitted a Defect Information Report based upon decisions made by Chrysler (FCA US LLC) and Ford Motor Company to conduct recalls (numbers 18V277 and 18V389 respectively). The brake circuit hose assemblies located between the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit, may have been manufactured without anti-corrosion plating on the coupling fittings, or "ferrules," of the hoses. This can lead to premature corrosion, and result in a brake fluid leak.
What could happen
A brake fluid leak can reduce brake effectiveness, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Martinrea is working with the affected vehicle manufacturers. Dealers for those manufacturers will replace the brake hoses, free of charge. The recall began July 17, 2018.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 17 July 2018.
