What the defect is
Cummins Inc. (Cummins) is recalling certain B6.7 Diesel Engines, part number D313029BX03, used in school buses, trucks and emergency vehicles, equipped with fuel module option number FS90301 or FS90453. The electric fuel heater within the fuel module may overheat and cause plastic in the fuel heater to melt and potentially catch fire. It may also lead to engine stalling.
What could happen
A fire increases the risk of injury. An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Cummins will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel heater with a newly designed fuel heater, free of charge. The recall began May 29, 2020.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 31 March 2020.
