What the defect is
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter vehicles. The chassis may be missing the additional stabilization required for its cargo capacity. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
What could happen
If the vehicle is operated without the additional stabilization, vehicle handling could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
DVUSA will notify owners, and dealers will upgrade the chassis by replacing the stabilizer bar on the front axle and replacing shock absorbers and installing a stabilizer bar on the rear axle, free of charge. DVUSA issued owners an interim notification on September 18, 2020. The recall began October 1, 2020.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 27 July 2020.
