What the defect is
Sutphen Corporation (Sutphen) is recalling one 2017 Fire Truck and one 2020 Fire Truck, equipped with Code 3 7x9 Stop-Tail-Turn Reverse All-in-One LED lights. The lights may be too bright, exceeding the maximum light output allowed which may adversely affect the vision of drivers. As such, these vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

The excessive brightness may affect the vision of other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
What gets fixed
Sutphen assisted the owners in obtaining filter kits from the light manufacturer, free of charge. Both affected vehicles have been remedied and therefore no owner letters will be mailed.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 19 October 2021.
