- Autoliv Airbag Inflator
What the defect is
Autoliv, Inc. (Autoliv) is recalling certain roof rail air bag inflators with model numbers ACH4.0 (P7.5-30-325) and ACH4.0 (P3.5-30-312). The air bag inflator may fail at the weld joint, which can cause gas to leak from the inflator or result in an inflator rupture.
What could happen
An inflator that ruptures may cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, an inflator that leaks gas may only partially inflate during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
What gets fixed
Vehicle manufacturers will determine the remedy for the affected vehicles.

Your rights
A safety recall repair is free. Under US federal law the manufacturer must fix a safety defect at no cost to you — no charge for parts, labor or diagnosis — whether or not you are the original owner. A dealer cannot charge you for recall work, and cannot require you to have bought the vehicle from them.
That entitlement is not unlimited. It applies where the vehicle was first sold less than 15 years before the recall was announced — 5 years for tires. Past that a manufacturer may still do the repair free of charge, and many do, but they are no longer obliged to. This recall was reported on 3 May 2024.
